More than 15,000 firefighters are battling wildfire spreading across California State, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire).
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency in San Diego, San Bernardino, Fresno, Madera, and Mariposa countries, as they are worst affected. Dealing with these fires have been made worse by the record high heatwave in the state.
The heatwave has also put strain on electrical grids, causing blackouts As of As of Monday 50,000 homes and businesses had no power, according to Poweroutage.US.
The California Independent System Operator (CA ISO), which operates a large portion of the state’s electricity, announced a Stage 2 Emergency on Sunday, s to ‘defend the grid, and manage transmission loss and avoid outages’.
In the northern part of the state, last month alone, groups of fires thought to be caused by lightning have burned more than 850,000 acres.
