A woman has been very literally snapped at for not wearing her face mask properly.
In a video clip posted on Twitter, the woman can be crouching in a park on a summer’s day smiling happily at a swan.
The swan, however, looks less pleased to see her – suddenly biting at her from across the small stream that separates them.
But, luckily, rather than catch the woman’s face, the bird snatches the blue face covering that was hanging from her chin.
It yanks back the elastic and pings the mask into place, as the dumbstruck woman keels backwards in shock.
It is not clear where the footage was filmed, but it was posted on Thursday – the day that France recorded almost 10,000 new coronavirus infections overnight.
Health authorities reported 9,843 new Covid-19 cases, – the country’s highest single-day total since the pandemic began.
Across the world, experts have stressed the importance of face coverings in the fight against the disease.
Professor Catherine Noakes, a member of the UK Government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), said: “Coronavirus is emitted in tiny droplets when we breathe, talk, laugh or cough. Other people can be exposed to these when they are close to someone with the virus or they are in a poorly ventilated room for a long time.
“Wearing a face covering prevents most of these droplets from being released into the air, and can also reduce the number of droplets that you are exposed to. Read more from the Evening Standard.
