This year the Dakar Fashion Week Catwalk moved its operation to the Baobab Forest amid COVID-19 pandemic
This year marks the 18th edition of Fashion Week in the capital of Senegal. The decision was made to host its main catwalk in a baobab forest in to maintain safety through social distancing.
“With Covid, we had to be creative, I had to find solutions and above all we had to avoid (cancelling) the show, and here I think there is enough space so that no one feels cramped,” says Adama Ndiaye, producer at Dakar Fashion Week.

Baobab trees can live for over 3,000 years. When they die, they rot inside and suddenly collapse. The trees tend to resist drought, fire and termites. Some call them the upside down trees because their branches look like roots.
