A mysterious light in the sky off Florida’s coast on Tuesday evening lured curious residents to social media to find out what caused it.
The light was caused by a Trident missile test launch from a submarine, according to a meteorologist at the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s news partner WPEC-Ch. 12.
“No that’s not a UFO,” Zach Covey tweeted. “It was a Trident-II SLBM Missile Test from a submarine off the coast of Florida. The missile test had been scheduled for the past few days and we just so happened to catch it tonight.”
SLBM means submarine-launched ballistic missile. Unarmed missiles are launched from submarines in tests.
Covey also included a screen shot of the missile’s path. One commenter said the light was visible as far north as Virginia. Read more from Sun-Sentinel.
