A World War II-era aircraft plunged into the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday after a mechanical failure during a Florida air show.

The TBM Avenger performing in the warbird parade had a mechanical issue and the pilot was able to bring the plane down close to the shore. Rescue personnel were immediately on scene and the pilot is okay.
Officials said a TBM Avenger airplane was performing in the Cocoa Beach Air Show as part of the warbird parade when the pilot started to experience a mechanical issue and brought the plane down close to shore, WFTV reported.
Rescue crews were immediately at the scene. The pilot is expected to be OK. There were no other injuries as a result of the water landing, BayNews9 reported.
The Avenger aircraft was first used in 1941 as a torpedo bomber for the U.S. military and was the largest single engine plane used during the war, according to the National Naval Aviation Museum. Read more from fox23
