Another multiday severe weather outbreak – the fourth in four weeks – will threaten the Plains, Midwest and South through midweek, where thunderstorms will be capable of spawning tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds.

The outbreak is being fueled by a classic springtime weather pattern featuring a sharp, southward dip of the jet stream punching out of the Rockies and into the nation’s midsection. That powerful jet stream is causing an area of low pressure to intensify over the central U.S. as it ingests warm, humid air streaming northward from the Gulf of Mexico.

This setup will result in the development of widespread showers and thunderstorms. While some severe storms are expected on Monday, atmospheric ingredients will be the most favorable for strong tornadoes (EF-2 or higher) on Tuesday and Wednesday, in addition to very large hail and destructive winds.

Here’s what to expect through Wednesday. Be sure to download the FOX Weather app for the latest forecast and weather alerts for your exact location, plus the 24/7 livestream of America’s Weather Team.

Monday-Monday night

The severe weather outbreak will kick off Monday afternoon and Monday night when isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are predicted to target areas from northeastern Texas to the Ozarks and the mid-South. The greatest severe weather threat is in parts of western and northern Arkansas and far eastern Oklahoma.

Large to very large hail, damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes are all possible in this region.

Tuesday-Tuesday night

Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to fire up beginning late Tuesday afternoon and continuing through Tuesday night across a broad area from the Southern and Central Plains to the Mississippi Valley.

A narrow corridor from Central and North Texas to central Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, northwestern Missouri, Iowa and eastern Nebraska has the greatest threat of severe weather.

Very large hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes are all threats from these storms. Some of the tornadoes could be EF-2 or stronger. Read more from Fox.
