Zhou Guanyu credits a protection device introduced to Formula 1 cars in 2018 for keeping him alive.

The “Halo,” a titanium structure covering the cockpit that was disliked by some drivers for how it made the cars look, protected Zhou during his terrifying crash Sunday during the first lap of the British Grand Prix, when his Alfa Romeo flipped upside down, skidded off the track and flipped over the tire barrier before hurdling into a fence.

Zhou, 23, was stretchered off and taken for evaluation but cleared and released from the medical center during the race.

“I’m OK, all clear. Halo saved me today,” Zhou wrote Sunday on Twitter. “Thanks everyone for your kind messages!”

Zhou took to Twitter again Monday morning to offer more thanks and express his eagerness to get back in action.

“Hi everyone! Thank you all for the kind messages. I want to thank the marshals and the medical team at Silverstone, they were really fantastic,” Zhou wrote. “I’m keener than ever to get back on track, see you guys in Austria!” Read more from NY Post.
