Some playful moments between a manatee and a young surfer on the Treasure Coast of Florida were caught on camera.
Lisa Blais shared the video on her Facebook page. The moment happened on July 4 in the Fort Pierce Inlet.
Blais said she and her husband and their twin sons, Evan and Logan, often go surfing in the inlet.
Blais said two manatees suddenly appeared in the relatively calm water. The two kept swimming around the boys, even though the boys tried to avoid them. As her husband grabbed the GoPro, one of the manatees moved closer to Evan.
Evan’s mom said he thought it was a shark at first and was a little scared. But the manatee appeared to just want to play. The manatee grabbed the surfboard and pulled it to its stomach as if to give it a hug. Evan thought the manatee wanted to surf, his mom said. Evan and the manatee bobbed up and down in the waves for a bit.
Blais said the manatees stayed around for about 10 minutes. Read more from Fox28
