Cruella: Everything We Know About Emma Stone’s 101 Dalmations Prequel

Get ready, Maleficent fans: Disney has another origin story in the works for one of its most iconic villains. Cruella promises to explain how 101 Dalmatians antagonist Cruella de Vil became just so, well, cruel.
Here’s what we know so far about the movie.
The first trailer and preview images have been unveiled.
The trailer introduces Emma Stone’s Estella, who proudly proclaims that she was born talented, brilliant, and bad. It also offers a look at the film’s take on London in the 1970s—and a peek at the costumes, crafted by two-time Oscar winner Jenny Beavan (Mad Max: Fury Road, A Room with a View), which a press release promises “take on a life of their own” onscreen. Emma Stone stars as Estella—a determined young fashion designer, who will later become Cruella de Vil—while Emma Thompson plays sartorial legend Baroness von Hellman. They’re joined by Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mark Strong, and many more.
Behind the camera, Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) directed the movie, based on a script from Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, with a the story by Aline Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel, and Steve Zissis.
