The staff at a New Hampshire restaurant got the surprise of their lives from a generous customer — a very generous customer.
The man ordered two hot dogs with chili and cheese, fried pickle chips, and three drinks. His bill came to $37.93.
Instead of 15 or even 30%, the customer left a $16,000 tip. (FYI, that’s 42,183%, according to our calculations.)
Owner Mike Zarella and his staff thought it was a simple mistake or a typo on the receipt, but the patron, who wished to remain anonymous, insisted it was legit.
“He’s kind of a mystery man,” bartender Michelle McCudden told NBC Boston. “I’ve been doing this a very long time and I never thought anything like this would happen to me.”
There were eight servers working that night. They split the tip between themselves and shared it with the cooks as well.
“We went up and we thanked him,” said McCudden. “It’s just been a really rough year for all of us.” Read more from the Toronto Sun.
