This is no ordinary year for Duran Duran. And Duran Duran is no ordinary band.
The British pop-rock legends recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of their self-titled debut album, a feat of longevity that’s imprinted on their latest album, Future Past.
Dropping at the stroke of midnight, Future Past includes “Anniversary,” a nod to DD’s four-decades of action, along with the previously-released cuts “More Joy!”, “Tonight United,” “Give It All Up” and “Invisible,” which got its debut TV performance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, part of a three-song medley.

Guest producers on the new 12-track set include Erol Alkan and Giorgio Moroder, and there are plenty of assists from the likes of Blur’s Graham Coxon, Tove Lo, CHAI, Ivorian Doll, and David Bowie’s former pianist Mike Garson.

Alkan and Moroder “brought something special to the table,” comments founding keyboardist Nick Rhodes. “Erol has this amazing energy with his mix of dance and indie. Graham was with us every step of the way. It was thrilling to have some new blood in the room. Even as the newcomer in our writing circle, he fitted in very quickly, and rose to the challenge of trying to do something inventive and different.”
The collection was recorded across studios in London and Los Angeles during lockdown, and welcomes back As You Need Is Now producer Mark Ronson, who co-wrote and played on “WING,” with mixing by Mark “Spike” Stent.
Duran Duran warmed up for the release with performances at Austin City Limits, the Global Citizen Live event, and a special homecoming show at Birmingham’s Institute. A full tour will follow in 2022. Read more from Billboard.
