The live sale will go on as planned but the saleroom will not be open to the public. Bids will instead be submitted by absentee means, online and by telephone.
The 87-year-old actress has had a legendary professional career spanning 70 years. She is best known for playing Alexis Colby on the U.S. television series, Dynasty, from 1982 – 1989. Collins is also an author, columnist and philanthropist. It is in this latter role that she was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II for services to charity. True to this role, part of the proceeds from the sale of her jewels will go to the Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, the leading children’s hospice charity in the U.K., which cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, of which Collins is a patron.
“The fabulous thing about jewelry is how extraordinary it makes you feel – these pieces of jewelry have brought me so much joy over the years and I felt it was time for others to experience this,” Collins said in a statement. “I am also delighted to support The Shooting Star Children’s Hospice through part of the proceeds of the lots.”
Jean Ghika, Bonhams global director of Jewellery said the five pieces being offered “embody the Hollywood glamour for which she is known.”
The most valuable piece in this group of jewels is a diamond necklace she purchased in 1985. It’s designed as a graduated series of brilliant and marquise-cut diamonds. The front has a scrolling ribbon of step-cut diamonds totaling approximately 60.50 carats. Its estimate is $65,000 – $91,000. Read more from Forbes.
