Hurricane Isaias could delay splashdown on SpaceX capsule

Astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley are expected to splashdown for the first time in 45 years, in the Gulf of Mexico. NASA is monitoring the weather, as Hurricane Isaias could delay the return.

The first US astronauts to travel to the International Space Station (ISS) on an American spacecraft in nearly a decade are scheduled to return to Earth this weekend, NASA confirmed on Friday.

Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley took off aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon from Cape Canaveral, Florida on May 30. Their undocking from the ISS is scheduled for approximately 7:34 pm (23:34 UTC) Saturday, and the splashdown at 2:42 pm (18:42 UTC) on Sunday.

The landing target will be on the Gulf of Mexico, off the coast of Florida’s Panama City, halfway between the cities of Tallahassee and Pensacola. Read more
